Activity Level – Extremely Strenuous
Backpacking in the remote Wind River Range is beautiful and strenuous. Prior backpacking experience is strongly recommended.
We included a three day acclimation period in Jackson. The Winds are a very remote, hard to reach back country wilderness, so the time in Jackson is to mitigate the risk of Explorer Chicks suffering from altitude sickness while backpacking. Our route in the Winds will be above 10,000 feet of elevation and roughly 24 miles over 4 days. If you chronically suffer from altitude sickness, please evaluate if this is the right backpacking trip for you.
The terrain will be a mix of trail, talus, and scree with very steep and difficult portions. Expect to carry a backpack weighing 45lbs during the trip. It absolutely essential that you train prior to your trip on trail, up hill, and with a loaded pack.
Please realistically assess your own abilities before booking this trip. It is for both your’s and the group’s safety and enjoyment. Email us directly if you are unsure if this trip is right for you.
