WV “Via Ferrata” Rock Climbing
Get ready to literally elevate your adventures “via ferrata” climbing at Nelson Rocks in West Virginia! You’ll experience a beginner friendly style of climbing with other adventurous women on this day trip mini adventure in Circleville, WV.
What the heck is Via Ferrata? It’s Italian for “iron road,” the via ferrata is a permanently-installed system of steel rungs and cables. Initially designed and built to transport troops in Italy during WWI, via ferratas have now become a recreational activity for outdoor rock climbing enthusiasts.🧗♀️
Gear and Safety Briefing
You’ll start your adventure gearing up and learning how to use the two-carabiner lanyard. This system allows climbers to be clipped into the safety cable at all times. Climbers each receive a safety briefing, instruction, and equipment fitting on the ground before ascending the rock. Then it’s off for a short 20-minute hike to the base.
Via Ferrata and Suspension Bridge
Let the climbing begin! You’re on your way to conquer the one mile fixed-anchored route with the help of professional rock climbing guides. The higher you climb, the better the views! The double-finned Nelson Rocks provide a unique combination of physical challenge and overwhelming beauty! You’ll gain 1,085 feet in elevation, cross a suspension bridge that is 150 feet high and 200 feet long, and reach exposed heights of 280 feet!
