Explorer Chicks are on Adventure!
Fizzy Pickles Everyone!
Red River Gorge Kick off!
Theresa led a great backpacking workshop at the Red River Gorge this past weekend. Six Awesome women braved the weather only to find a perfect trip with a beautiful sunset! They learned the fundamentals of backpacking, one of which is that your guide might bamboozle you from time to time.
They were able to create some yummy food, great friendships, and best of all, life long memories!
A special thank you from Theresa and Explorer Chick for the incredible weekend!
Meanwhile on our Ultimate Road trip…
Lisa is feeling fabulous, but exhausted. Of course we’ve been keeping her well fed to fuel all that hiking.
Lou Ann had a “moment” this morning in Canyonlands at the Gooseberry Trailhead. The morning rain left the clouds hanging heavy over the mesas, but below the La Sal Mountains. “If this isn’t God’s country, I don’t know what is.”
Stephanie hit a low point last night, dropping and breaking her wine bottle. (Luckily, she picked up two!) She loved Horse Shoe Bend, but can’t wait to hike Zion and Bryce in the next few days!
We’re roughly half way through with more adventure ahead!
A time for Reflection
How your guides spend their breaks
Becca and I had roughly a week between our Moab and Ultimate Road Trip Adventures. We could’ve hunkered down, slept away the days, and stuffed our faces with Mexican food.
But, we’re Explorer Chicks! We’ve planned an overnight backpacking trip to Reflection Canyon in Escalante. Quite a bit ago, I saw a picture of Reflection Canyon and decided that I must go there! Quick research revealed this was not a trip to attempt solo. It involved 100 miles of dirt roads, over 20 miles of back country, mostly unmarked hiking, and desert terrain. I brought it up to Becca over the winter and our “Corporate Retreat” was confirmed!
It was a beautiful and brutal hike along the red cliffs and over the sandstone bluffs with Navajo Mountain in the background. We arrived exhausted with monster blisters and some serious butt chafing! But, man, was that sunset view of Reflection Canyon worth it! We camped overnight cowgirl style under the stars near the cliff’s edge. We greeted sunrise nestled in our sleeping bags with our sights set on the Lake Powell before us.
It was quite the adventure and I am forever grateful to co-guide with a fun, talented, and crazy chick who is always up for an adventure (and post hike feasts!)
