The Dutch Mud Men: Team Travel
For having such a busy schedule, recruiting Explorer Chick to research and manage the travel arrangements was a welcomed relief.
The Dirt has settled. The obstacles have been broken down and placed in storage. The mud has been cleaned from our shoes and compression. Another OCR World Championships weekend is in the books.
A couple of weeks ago Explorer Chick directed travel for over 70 athletes from the Netherlands. The Dutch Mud Men were traveling to Cincinnati to race in the 2nd Annual Obstacle Course Racing World Championships. Over the spring 2015, Gertjan and I connected to organize travel for the team.
With such a large group traveling to the event, he found it convenient to partner with one person located in the United States who could then coordinate all of the team travel arrangements and vendors locally. He would have one point of contact freeing his time to focus on his team, his duties as the OCRWC Dutch Ambassador, his other side ventures including OCR Promotions and MudCrew, plus his full time career and family. For having such a busy schedule, recruiting Explorer Chick to research and manage the travel arrangements was a welcomed relief.
Through emails and Skype conversations we determined travel dates, excursions, and an affordable travel budget for the athletes. We established the needs of the athletes – which hotel amenities were critical (Free Wifi, a good continental breakfast, a refrigerator and microwave), a close proximity to the race venue, and transportation.
Some of the athletes planned to rent cars while others preferred not to drive in an unfamiliar country. Explorer Chick organized an optional Transportation Package for the team. The transportation included Airport Transfers, a Pre-Race Gathering party shuttle, an outlet mall shopping excursion with a pizza party, shuttle to Packet Pick up, and Race day shuttles for both Saturday and Sunday of the event.
The team began trickling in mid-October and upon arrival, everyone received welcome gifts from both Explorer Chick and the Quality Inn Suites in Blue Ash. During the entire OCRWC weekend, Explorer Chick was on site managing the team’s travel. We were present confirming with the vendors, counting and accounting for all of the bus passengers, and communicating the next pick up time for the buses. Explorer Chick provided other small touches ensuring the travel for the athlete’s ran as smoothly as possible.
By using Explorer Chick’s Group Travel services the Dutch Mud Men were able to stay together as a team during the entire OCR World Championships weekend. The athletes spent the months leading up the event training, racing, and qualifying together. To be able to then travel as a team and represent the Netherlands in their bright Orange was truly a one of a kind experience.
On a personal level, I truly enjoyed meeting my OCR Athlete counterparts from the Netherlands. It never ceases to amaze me how athletics can break down language and cultural barriers. The language of training, sweat, determination, and discipline is universal. We may have hailed from over 20 nations with different backgrounds and stories, but there lies a mutual respect and understanding when stepping onto the OCRWC festival grounds and athlete areas. Until next year, happy training and good luck to the Dutch Mud Men in all of your races! We’ll see you next year!
Gertjan van Voorden ~ I planned my trip through EC for the OCR World Championships last October. We came with over 70 people from the Netherlands and everything was arranged for us. Hotel, bustransfers and trips. Nicki is a enthusiastic girl with a great and big smile. No problem is too big for her. She solves them right away! Next year we use EC again for our trip.
Marvin van der Sloot ~ Nicki was a great host for the trip in the USA. During our stay did she a wonderful job. She arranged the buses, to shopping mall, a bar and the most important OCRWC. If I need someone to arrange things, I will call her!!!
Mark Van Truijen ~ I went to the USA with a group. we arranged everything with Explorer Chick, and well. It was perfect. My stay was just nice everything was organised perfectly, when there was a little disturbances, she fixed it instantly. So credits to Nicki. Many thanksFor more, read some of the reviews posted by the Dutch Mud Men on Google!
