Your Mission

As the Destination Manager, your mission is to manage and take ownership of a robust portfolio of tours, ensuring transformative experiences for our guests through innovative and efficient approaches that prioritize the guest experience. You will strive to achieve a maximum profit margin, implementing initiatives to increase efficiency, decrease costs, or boost revenue, thereby skyrocketing future growth.

 

Your Day-to-Day

In your daily activities, you’ll manage and take ownership of multi-day tours, overseeing reservations, problem-solving, budgeting, expenses, fulfillment, destination education, supplier relationships, private label touch points, and creative initiatives to enhance efficiency and margins. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for scheduling next year’s tours, negotiating costs, developing trip budgets, adjusting itineraries, gathering required documentation, and renewing contracts. Performing regular analysis and allocated areas and solutions to drive improvement and growth.

Analyzing trip evaluations and Adventure Reports weekly, you’ll recommend improvements based on data-driven insights. Staying updated on news in all destinations for risk management and crisis response, you’ll collaborate with local suppliers and authorities. Delegating tasks efficiently. Engaging in ongoing education to stay abreast of industry developments and best practices is crucial as well as experience with the adventure travel industry and destinations.

To excel in this role, you’ll need previous experience in tour operations or related fields. In-depth knowledge of outdoors adventure travel, destination geography, attractions, culture, and regulations are essential. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, logistical, and planning skills are paramount. Strong budgeting, financial management, negotiation, strategic thinking, high level of detail, and problem-solving abilities will also contribute to your success.

  • Destination Makeovers: Revitalize destinations annually by implementing changes to itineraries, activities, logistics, and lodging to generate renewed interest and energy.
  • Tour Planning and Execution: Schedule tours, negotiate costs, develop budgets, and adjust itineraries as needed while ensuring accurate information and exceptional service across all channels.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze trip evaluations weekly, recommend improvements based on data-driven insights, and collaborate with the Guide Manager to resolve any issues.
  • Risk Management: Stay updated on news and events in destinations for effective risk and crisis management, collaborating with local suppliers and governing bodies on emergency response plans.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Delegate tasks effectively and provide ongoing support and education to enhance team efficiency and performance.
  • Budget Monitoring and Reporting: Review trip budgets, expenses, and guide reservations regularly to ensure alignment with financial goals and operational efficiency.

Position Overview

  • Highlights: Manager in a fast-growing company with unlimited potential. Work/Life Balance. Travel on one Explorer Chick trip per year.
  • Salary Range: Competitive compensation based on experience. Full-Time.
  • Location: 100% Remote. Must be US-Based. 

 

Required Experience 

  • A strong passion for creative problem-solving, risk management, strategy, logistics, hospitality, and big-picture thinking while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in management, hospitality or tourism industry
  • Experience in the outdoors and travel is key. Proven outdoor experience including extensive hiking in various landscapes, weather, physical demands, etc. Additional experience includes camping, backpacking, and well-roundedness in other outdoor activities such as kayaking, cycling, etc.
  • Strong in time management, problem-solving, analytics, negotiation & budgeting, multitasking, technology and networking.
