Photos Itinerary Expand All Days Day 1 - Welcome to Patagonia Welcome to Patagonia, where the air feels fresher, the mountains look bigger, and your only job is to show up and soak it all in. Today, you will meet your fellow Explorer Chicks in the charming fjord-side town of Puerto Natales, settle into adventure mode, and kick things off with a Welcome Dinner that’s part feast, part icebreaker, and all fun! Accommodation: Hotel, Puerto Natales Meals: D Day 2 - Hiking in Torres Del Paine National Park After a delicious breakfast, we’ll board the trusty SHE-nanigan Shuttle through Chilean Pampas grasslands to our rugged home for the next five days. Torres del Paine National Park is a crown jewel of public land – bursting with mountains, glaciers, pristine lakes and winding rivers. Paine (pronounced “PIE-neh”) is the native Tehuelche word for blue and Torres is the Spanish word for towers. So yeah, you aren’t going to need your fancy Insta filters. We’ll hike through wildflowers and peer up at soaring condors as we take in panoramic views of Torres del Paine. The highest point of the trail connects to a rarely-trekked path to Weber Bridge in the heart of the park. Afterwards, we’ll march our buzzing bodies to our home for the next four nights, complete with a feastly meal full of local flare. Transfer Time: 2 hours Hiking Distance: 8 miles Hiking Time: 5-6 hours Elevation Gain: 970’ gain Accommodation: Hotel on the Serrano River Meals: B-L-D Day 3 - Paine Massif Panorama Trek It’s legs day, Explorer Chick! After breakfast, we’ll board our loyal SHE-nanigan Shuttle for a transfer to Pudeto Pier on the shores of Lake Pehoé, where we’ll hop aboard a catamaran and cruise across some of the most unreal turquoise water Patagonia has to offer. Today’s adventure takes us onto the Skottsberg Loop, a lesser-traveled trail winding along the eastern shoreline of Lake Skottsberg beneath the towering granite peaks of the Paine Massif. This route serves up nonstop panoramic views of the Cuernos del Paine and Paine Grande from angles that honestly feel a little rude. Between the glowing blue water, jagged mountain peaks, rolling grasslands, and constantly shifting Patagonian skies, the scenery just keeps showing off all day long. The trail itself feels wild and wonderfully remote, with fewer crowds and endless opportunities for landscape photos, snack breaks with absurd views, and moments where the whole group just collectively stops and stares in silence for a second. We’ll stop along the route to enjoy our chef-prepared box lunches surrounded by massive peaks and glacial scenery before making our way back toward Paine Grande for our catamaran ride across Lake Pehoé. By the end of the day, expect tired legs, approximately 700 photos, and a deep personal attachment to Patagonia. Transfer Time to Pudeto Pier: 45 minutes Catamaran to Paine Grande: 35 minutes Hiking Distance: 7.5 miles Hiking Time: 5 hours Elevation Gain: 950’ gain Accommodation: Hotel on the Serrano River Meals: B-L-D Day 4 - Grey Lake and River Kayaking After a plentiful breakfast, we’ll board our Shuttle for a quick 30 minute transfer to meet our professional kayaking guides on the shores of Grey Lake. We’ll get the low-down on paddling 101 before slipping into the lake and two rivers. Our views of the magnificent Paine Massif will be so pristine, you’ll wonder if they’re Photoshopped. Speak the names of some of the most glorious peaks –Paine Grande, the Cordillera Olguin, and Los Cuernos. Awaken new strength in your arms and core as you paddle through floes of ice that have descended from Glacier Grey, the namesake of these waters. These icebergs are scattered throughout the lake and have been sculpted into incredible shapes by the wind and sun, before being pushed to the shores of the lake. After, we’ll descend into Grey River, which snakes through deep canyons with steep rock faces and rapids. Fear not, this is still a beginner-friendly paddle! We will continue on past the Paine Massif along the Grey River until it joins with the turquoise water of the Serrano. After a day of paddling, we’ll arrive back at our hotel ready to rest our muscles, gorge our bellies and laugh like hyenas. Transfer Time: 30 Minutes Kayaking: 10-15 miles. Kayaking Time: 5-6 hours Accommodation: Hotel on the Serrano River Meals: B-L-D *To kayak, you must be under 250 pounds Day 5 - Condors and Guanacos and Pumas Today is all about exploring some of the most jaw-dropping viewpoints in Torres del Paine National Park. After a short transfer to Pudeto, we’ll head out on a scenic round-trip hike to Salto Grande and Mirador Cuernos, where crashing turquoise water, dramatic granite peaks, and glacial lakes somehow all exist in the same view like Patagonia is showing off. Later, we’ll transfer to Lago Sarmiento for a softer wildlife-focused hike toward Laguna Amarga. Keep your eyes peeled for guanacos, condors, flamingos, lesser rheas (basically Patagonia’s version of an ostrich), and maybe even a glimpse of the elusive puma if luck is on our side. Between the landscapes, wildlife, and nonstop views, today is pure Patagonia magic. Hiking Distance: 3.7 / 4 mi Hiking Time: 6.5 hours Elevation Gain: 636’ / 600’ Accommodation: Hotel on the Serrano River Meals: B-L-D Day 6 - Horseback Riding and Gaucho Culture Today, we will visit a gorgeous Estancia that is actively protecting one of the most biodiverse regions in Patagonia. It is home to puma, the Colocolo cat, Geoffroy’s cat, birds of prey, and a host of other creatures, including armadillos, guanacos, caiquenes, skunks and woodpeckers. We’ll learn more about the Estancia culture through a guided tour as well as the work of the Gauchos as we saddle up for our day’s adventure. We will ride on Criollo horses, a Patagonian breed that is highly adapted to the terrain – AND HIGHLY CUTE. These Criollo are lucky enough to roam wide-open pampas, green southern beech forests and the rugged coastline with a gaucho and our guide. No previous horseback riding experience is needed, but this won’t be a slow pony ride! We will be riding guacha-style past native flora, fauna and an archaeological site. After we give our Criollo a loving snout rub goodbye, we’ll settle in for a sheep shearing demonstration (compete with working dogs!) and enjoy a delicious traditional Patagonian barbeque aka asado at the Estancia. Life is good, mi Amiga. Transfer to Cerro Guido: 2 hours Estancia Tour: 4-5 hours Horseback Riding: 2-3 hours Accommodation: Hotel, Cerro Castillo Meals: B-L-D *To ride horseback, you must be under 200 pounds Day 7 - Hike to the Base of Las Torres Patagonia doesn’t exactly believe in easing into big days, and honestly… neither do we. Grab your coffee, layer up, and get ready for one of the most legendary hikes in Torres del Paine. We’ll transfer early to the Las Torres sector of the park, where we’ll lace up our boots and begin the unforgettable trek to Base of Las Torres. Our initial climb follows the Ascencio River into the Ascencio Valley. After about an hour, we’ll stop to observe how the valley’s beauty unfolds with rich beech forests, glaciers and waterfalls. Past this lookout point, we continue uphill and through lush beech forests before ascending a gigantic terminal moraine, which is the ridge formed at a glacier’s end point. Here is where we witness the money shot of the three Towers themselves. We’ll pause at this breathtaking lookout point 2950’ above sea level, have a rest, take photos and snack like we’ve never snacked before. After taking in the views, we’ll descend along the same trail back to our shuttle and head toward one final cozy evening in the Cerro Castillo region. Transfer Time to Las Torres: 40 mins Hiking Distance: 13.6 miles. Challenging. Hiking Time: 8-10 hours Elevation Gain: 3,330’ gain. Accommodation: Hotel, Cerro Castillo Meals: B-L-D Day 8 - E-Bike Ride and Milodon Caves Our last day is all about soaking in Patagonia’s magic, one scenic view at a time. After breakfast, we’ll jump aboard the trusty SHE-nanigan Shuttle and cruise past the coastline of Puerto Natales, spotting charming ranches and wildlife along the way. Keep your eyes peeled for ñandus (Darwin’s Rhea), flamingos, skunks, foxes, and grazing sheep dotting the endless landscapes. Then, it’s time to saddle up – on e-bikes! We’ll pedal through Puerto Natales, past Puerto Pratt and Puerto Consuelo, with the sparkling Ultima Esperanza Sound as our sidekick. As we ride along gravel and paved roads, you’ll take in views that will make your heart soar and your legs forget they’re working. Our grand finale? A hike through the prehistoric Milodón Caves, marveling at their rugged beauty and ancient secrets – a perfect way to end an unforgettable adventure! We’ll return to Puerto Natales for the evening. Prepare for an epic, boisterous, super emo farewell dinner. Transfer Time: 1 hour E-biking: 10-15 miles on gravel and paved surfaces. Minimal gains. E-biking Time: 4-5 hours Hiking: 2-5 miles. 400’ elevation gain. Accommodation: Hotel, Puerto Natales Meals: B-L-D Day 9 - Goodbyes and Ugly Cries Enjoy one last breakfast together before parting ways. We’ll share heartfelt goodbyes, squeeze in a few extra hugs, and maybe linger a little longer than planned. For anyone leaving today, we’ll provide a final chauffeur in the SHE-nanigan Shuttle to the Puerto Natales airport. You can schedule your departure anytime today. Trails can be rough and uneven, with weather that loves to throw all four seasons at you in a single day. While we’ll be hiking near sea level (no altitude adjustments needed – hooray!), expect long days on your feet, steep climbs, and some serious leg-burning moments. Training is the key to having an amazing time on this trip! The stronger you are when you arrive, the more fun you’ll have each day. We’ll mix in rest days and varied activities to give your muscles a break, but this is not the kind of trip where you can “wing it.” Showing up prepared will make all the difference, especially on Day 7’s big challenge: the Base of the Towers trek. This beast is 13 miles, 3,330 feet of elevation gain, and 8-10 hours of hiking over steep, rocky terrain. The reward? One of Patagonia’s most jaw-dropping views. Getting there takes endurance, grit, and strong legs, so start training now – future-you will thank you. And just so we’re clear, NO SKIPPING LEG DAY, ladies! And don’t forget your upper body! If you aren’t a regular paddler, you’ll also want to focus on core and shoulder strength. On Day 4, we’ll be kayaking up to 15 miles through flat waters and winding rivers. A strong core and steady arms will turn this into an epic day of paddling past glaciers instead of a struggle against sore muscles. Think of it as your chance to train like a fearless explorer – because, well, you are! Daily Activities: Day 2: Hike. 8 miles. 970′ elevation gain. 5-6 hours. Moderate. I recently did the Shenandoah National Park hiking trip with my sister and five other women who started as complete strangers but quickly became friends. The entire experience was unforgettable, but the absolute highlight of the trip was our incredible guides, Christina and Savannah. These women deserve 5 stars across the board for everything, customer care, knowledge, leadership, encouragement, fun, and heart. They were so attentive to everyone’s dietary needs and restrictions, always checking in and making sure every woman felt comfortable, included, and supported. They set the perfect pace for the group and created such a positive, uplifting environment.Christina and Savannah are extremely knowledgeable about the trails, terrain, and hiking experience overall. You can tell they are experienced athletes, adventurers, and truly passionate about what they do. Beyond their skills, what inspired me most was watching two such strong, accomplished women genuinely dedicate themselves to lifting up and encouraging other women to believe in their own strength and push beyond their comfort zones. This trip was so much more than hiking. It was empowering, inspiring, healing, fun, and full of connection. I left feeling stronger, more confident, and so grateful for the experience and the friendships made along the way.Highly, highly recommend Explorer Chick Adventure Trips and if you get Christina and Savannah as your guides, you are incredibly lucky!Cathie W.If you’re considering an adventure with Explorer Chick Boots and Roots in the Smoky Mountains — book it. This trip exceeded every expectation. Our guides, Kirstie and Cailyn, were absolutely phenomenal. They went out of their way every single day to make sure we were well-fed, well-guided, comfortable, and enjoying the experience. From yummy "Trader Joes" style meals to unforgettable moments, they created an experience I will remember fondly. One of the highlights was Cailyn fully committing to the fun by donning overalls for an authentic moonshine tasting experience that had all of us smiling from ear to ear. It’s those little touches that made the trip feel so personal and memorable. And then there was the hike to Charlie’s Bunion that had to replace Ramsay's Cascade due to bear activity... 8 miles round trip (uphill both ways LOL just kidding) and worth every single step. The views were simply breathtaking. Truly the view of a lifetime. Standing there in the Smokies, surrounded by those endless mountain ridges, is something I’ll never forget. If you want incredible guides, meaningful experiences, beautiful scenery, and memories you’ll be talking about long after you get home, just book the trip!Tracey L.My sister and I participated in a 3 day Shenandoah Hiking Adventure and it was an exceptional experience, in large part because of our two guides, Christina and Savannah. They are both incredible woman with a vast knowledge of hiking in the wilderness and an intense passion for all that they do, which includes leading many, many expeditions throughout the U.S., and around the world. We felt so fortunate that we had them as guides because they have so many years of experience hiking in a diverse range of terrains and climate zones, couples with years of experience as a guides, which means they have highly honed skills when it comes to leading participants during all of our hikes, and through all aspects of the tour experience. One of the challenges of leading tours like this is that participants vary greatly in their levels of experience, fitness, and personality styles, and yet, both Christina and Savannah managed this challenge with great facility. They were able to create an environment that fostered connection and camaraderie, and that encouraged everyone to challenge themselves in positive and growth-enhancing ways. Additionally, the hikes we took were all spectacular. The beauty of the Shenandoah's is incredible. I experienced so much peace, pleasure and joy from the time we spent hiking along various trails. For anyone who enjoys time in nature, or who wants an opportunity for nature immersion, this tour definitely fits the bill. Additionally, Explorer Chicks does a great job of planning and communicating all of the logistics which made it possible to let go of everyday hassles and to be fully present for the wonderful experiences that were offered through this tour.Glenda D.To start off, our guides were fantastic. Full of knowledge and so very kind. We were all shock to hear that this was the first guided hike that Mary and Laura had done together. It’s like they just clicked. Thought they’d been together for a long time. Hikes did not disappoint and we had a nice bunch of girls, which made it fun. Hoping that all of our paths will cross again on another Explorer Chick adventure. We will all definitely rebook with you again!!!Gayle M.I just took an amazing trip to Zion and Bryce National Parks with Explorer Chick! Everything about this trip was top notch.
